Mr. Higgins

Mr Higgins was founded in 2001 as a supplier of classic mahogany desks, cabinets and related furniture. The name Mr Higgins is taken from the character in the musical My Fair Lady. This Mr Higgins was a great lover of classic English-style furniture. The increasing demand for mahogany furniture soon resulted in expansion. In 2004, the entire church building was converted into a showroom.

With this expansion, the demand for customisation also increased and assignments became more challenging. In close cooperation with our workshop, the possibilities have been expanded with regard to customisation. The demand for customisation and the specific wishes of our customers eventually resulted in a substantial collection which can also be fully customised and adapted to the customer’s requirements. Over the years, our collection has expanded to include various types of seating, bedroom furniture and many small pieces of furniture. This wide range combined with virtually unlimited customisation possibilities means that Mr Higgins can supply or design a unique piece of furniture for every room.

In 2010, work began on renovating our new location; an old farmhouse. We opened our doors here in 2012. The new location allows us to display more of our collection. Also, this rural setting was an inspiration to build a collection of country furniture alongside our collection of classic mahogany furniture. Beautiful, high-quality solid wood furniture but in different colours, materials and styles. Unique robust furniture with a fine finish and always with a classic touch.

The Farm

After years of being based in a former church building in the centre of Alphen aan den Rijn, Mr Higgins has been based in an old farmhouse on the outskirts of Alphen aan den Rijn since 2012. The former farm had been out of operation for several years and a thorough renovation was needed. The former cow and sheep shed have been converted into a spacious showroom of over 1,000m2. The old haystack, centrally located between the two stables, has been transformed into a beautiful entrance. The various outbuildings on the property serve as storage or have been converted into residential houses. The large former potato barn houses our warehouse and workshop. The rural farmhouse in the polders of the Green Heart offers a different view every season, each with its own charm. As soon as you arrive, you will experience the rural character of our company. Through the driveway with an orchard with several fruit trees to the left and right and populated by sheep and chickens, you enter the courtyard. Here you will find more than enough, free(!) parking. The many old, large trees and several waterways are a paradise for various bird species. On warm days, swallows skim low over the meadow behind the showroom overlooking the old mill. In short; a visit to our showroom is more than “looking at furniture”, it is an experience in itself.
